For the month of May, we are featuring a bunch of awesome moms who are setting an incredible example for their kids and those around them! First up is Robyn Rayner, pregnancy and postpartum athleticism coach at Taranis Athletics, a great friend and SO much more!

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

My name is Robyn Rayner, I am an RMT, CL1 coach, pregnancy & postpartum athleticism coach, a wife, and mom to Cohen and Bernie (my pup!). I love sports, Crossfit, and really just moving my body.


What inspired you to start the Taranis P&PA Program?

When I was pregnant with Cohen I stumbled across a woman named Brianna Battles. She has an online program on Pregnancy and Postpartum Athleticism and coaches high-level Crossfit athletes during their pregnancies and postpartum recoveries. I realized that “listening to your body” and “keep doing what you always did before pregnancy” weren’t good enough strategies to follow during this unique chapter in a woman's life, especially if you come from a competitive background where you trained to ignore pain and symptoms. The pregnant and postpartum chapter requires special considerations to preserve the core and pelvic floor while growing a baby and recovering/rebuilding after birth. That is why Taranis PPA was born. A place for expectant and new moms to build a community and while getting to exercise with their specific considerations in mind.


What are some of the benefits of doing fitness pre and post part?

Benefits of exercising while pregnant: As long as there is no medical reason that your health care provider advises you not to, exercise can be very beneficial during pregnancy; It can help reduce aches and pains, increase your mood and energy, reduce the chances of getting gestational diabetes, and keep your strength up for birth and beyond.

Benefits of exercising postpartum: Reconnect the core and pelvic floor, helps you stay strong to keep up with the demands of motherhood (babies get heavy!), improve mood and energy, and if you workout in a group setting you can meet other moms and form a network of friends to connect with (a mom group but with fitness!)


What are 3 things you do daily that you feel are essential to your wellbeing?

I meal prep weekly, try to get a massage once a month, and get outside as much as possible!


Do you set goals? Will you share those goals with us?

Yes! I love setting goals. Right now my main goal postpartum is to rebuild up the strength in my pelvic floor and abdominal wall to get back to being able to do more complex gymnastics and higher impact exercises.


What would you say to someone looking to live a healthier lifestyle?

Focus on one small healthy habit at a time. Slowly build off of that and you will get healthier in time. Health and fitness is a long time commitment and takes time.


What do you think this world needs most at this time in history?

More puppies! Puppies make people happy. But seriously, I think the world needs a more conscious effort to go green and take care of our planet!

Podcast: Right now it's “Well Fed Women”, they have some episodes on postpartum and I find it very relatable.

Exercise: Muscle-ups, handstand pushups, or anything gymnastics really (although I haven’t done a ton of those postpartum, yet!)

Healthy food: Leafy greens added to any meal.

Snack food: Power balls
