7 years ago I got injured at work; herniated the L4/L5 disk in my spine, which was pushing on 3 sets of nerves that led to a loss of feeling in my right foot and constant pain in the sciatic nerve. I could not sit, stand or walk for more than ten minutes at a time. Doctors told me I would not be able to walk again without the use of a cane for the rest of my life if I did not get surgery, which implied removing the ruptured disk and fusing the two vertebrae. Of course, I decided against that and I did rehab for a full year; luckily my disk popped back in and I could walk again, somewhat, pain-free.
I joined CrossFit a month later after finishing rehabilitation and got my deadlift up from 135lbs in rehab to 405lbs in 5 months. I realized how good the CrossFit methodology was and stuck with it ever since. In the last 6 years, I have been to 4 CrossFit Games Regionals, I have coached around the world for about 3 years with CrossFit Gymnastics, and now coach gymnastics at Taranis Athletics and write gymnastic programs for individual athletes and CrossFit affiliates. *To see some of my coaching & gymnastics follow the hashtag #amrapgymnastics on Instagram.
