Brooke is a highly motivated, intelligent and driven women. She strives for excellence in everything she does and while doing so, is one of the sweetest and most humble people I have ever met! I loved learning more about her and I hope that you do too!
Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I grew up in Comox and moved to Victoria in September 2018 to study Kinesiology at UVIC with the goal of becoming a neuro rehab specialist. This is in contrast to when I was younger and wanted to be a chocolatier so I could eat eat candy all day! Now I spend time everyday doing Crossfit and as much time as possible trying anything new or active. During the winter, I ski as much as possible. I love traveling, Spain and Africa being my favorite spots so far. I also love doing little camping and road trips throughout the year just to break the routine once in a while. My favorite place to get on the island is Bamfield.
What motivates you to stay healthy?
I love pushing myself at the gym because there’s always so much to improve on. It’s great to challenge yourself and see what your body and mind can do. In addition, I stay motivated to eat clean. It ensures that I feel and achieve my best. Beyond being motivated within myself, I have great friends that I train with and really admire who motivate me.
What is your occupation? What inspired you to pick this profession?
I am currently a student at UVIC studying kinesiology. My professional goals are to work in the sports field for a few years gaining experience and then return to school to take my masters in occupational therapy specializing in neurological rehab.
What is something that you have done recently to help others?
I participate in fundraisers for the BC cancer foundation as much as possible. When I travel, I really enjoy volunteering on local projects. One of my favorite experiences was doing habitat conservation in South Africa. Day to day, I always try to be there for the people in my life for whatever they need.
Can you tell us a little bit about your athletic background/what sports or type of fitness you do?
Growing up I would do lots of running with my mom and sister and we did lots of racing usually between 8-20km. I also started Muay Thai when I was 8 and took part in my first competitive fight when I was 15. I shifted to body building when I was 17 but never wanted to pursue the competitions. I found CrossFit 2 years ago and love it. I am training hard to be competitive in the sport.
Do you have a life-changing experience related to your athletic background/experience that shaped your future self or future direction?
One thing that got me started on exercise was when one of my teachers told my parents that, with my attention span, I would never be able to finish high school. After that my parents got me into Muay Thai and running to deal with my energy. I loved exercise and took it on myself. It always made me feel better and accomplish more.
What would you say to someone who is trying to start living a healthier lifestyle?
Enjoy the process and know that nothing comes right away but that hard work will pay off and leave you a better version of yourself. Talk and take advice from people living the lifestyle you want so that you can become more knowledgeable and independent.
What do you think the world needs most at this time in history?
The world needs people to be open-minded and accept others’ differences. People who live very different lives from each other can learn so much by not judging but understanding and appreciating different points of view.
Do you set goals? Will you share those goals with us?
I set goals for things that I want to accomplish each day, week, and then long term goals. Everyday when I go into the gym, I set goals for weights, reps or times I want to hit. Every week I know things that I want to go in and try to accomplish whether that’s a new PR or walking on my hand a bit further than before. My long term gym goals include competitions that I’d like to experience and large strides in my fitness level that will take more time to accomplish, like significantly increasing my weight on lifts. I also set personal goals such as completing my degree in kinesiology by the time I’m 23 and travelling to South America and India within the next 3 years to experience the culture.

What is your favourite Fit Balm product, and why?
I love Fit Balm hand repair. I use it for every injury where I’ve torn my skin. Whether it’s tearing my hands on the bar, ripping my legs on the rope, or rubbing my arms on a weight vest.
