Ohhhh peppermint. It’s the smell of Christmas and the cooling, refreshing scent I love in the summer. With its many uses, peppermint has got to be one of my favourite things in both skin care, tea and of course the odd treat… ice cream..candy canes, chocolate... you know, the good stuff. ;)
Peppermint has been used as a natural remedy for many years tracing back to Chinese, Japanese and even Ancient Egyptian times as a herbal remedy. Peppermint essential oil (Mentha piperitais) is multi-purpose, earning the reputation of being one of the most versatile oils in the world along with Lavender.
What is it?
It is a perennial herb native to the Mediterranean but has also been cultivated in the USA, Italy, Great Britain, and Japan. It has a high menthol and Menthone content that causes it to have a cooling, stimulating, antiseptic and analgesic effect.

Contraindications for Peppermint Oil:
Peppermint oil is safe in low dilutions but should not be applied directly around delicate areas due to the high menthol content. Pregnant and nursing women are advised not to use Peppermint essential oil without the medical advice of a physician, and the oil should always be stored in an area that is inaccessible to children, especially those under the age of seven.
